Magnetic Necklaces For Neck Pain Relief

Can a hematite magnetic necklace cause neck pain? Here’s a great question we got asked a few weeks ago.

Hi,
My boyfriend and I went to a local fair this past week I purchased a hematite magnetic bracelet and a hematite magnetic necklace.  He has been troubled with chronic shoulder pain so we thought maybe this necklace would provide relief of this pain.

He wore it for the day, and that night, he awoke and could barely move his neck.  It progressed to the point where he was unable to drive and his neck was stiff and painful.  We inquired the next day at the fair and they assured us that it was just conincidental that he was wearing the necklace and that he must have done something to his neck for it to be that painful.

They told us that the magnetic necklace could not in any way have caused the pain, as they are supposed to relieve pain.  He removed the necklace and the next day the pain had subsided almost completely.  Although he does not have a pacemaker, he does have coronary stents.  We were wondering if you have any possible answers to this and if the stents could have been the cause of this.

He is really  convinced that the magnetic necklace caused this pain.  Could this have happened? Karen

Hello Karen,

Whilst everyone does respond to magnets in a slightly different way, I will have to agree with the people you spoke to at the fair.

This type of reaction to the presence of medical magnets is almost unheard of.
All research into side effects has come back with a clear indication that no side effects are found when using magnetic therapy.

Some people may feel a tingling or light headed type of feeling as the body gets used to the magnets but it does subside quite quickly.

The magnetic field created by therapeutic magnets work with the body’s own magnetic field so cannot be harmful.

It is most likely a coincidence, he may have slept funny on his neck or jarred it or turned quickly or his muscle may have gone into spasm, there are lots of scenarios that may account for his neck pain problem.

But I do tend to think that it wasn’t caused by the magnetic necklace.

In regards to the coronary stents, magnets are fine to use with these. The material used to make things like stents, joint replacements, spinal rods, etc cannot be affected by magnetism.

You cannot wear magnets with a pacemaker because it is an electromagnetic device, that will be affected by the presence of a magnetic field.

If you need any further help or advice please get in touch.

Regards
Kat
