Can One Use A Magnetic Mattress With An Electric Blanket

If you are considering buying a magnetic mattress cover or magnetic pad,
you have to make sure that it will fit properly on your bed. One question
that we regularly get about magnetic mattress covers is whether they
can be used in conjunction with an electric blanket.

Here’s a question that we got recently about this issue:
Dear magnetic therapist,
We have recently started reusing the magnetic mattress cover I purchased from you
several years ago and have found it a great benefit.  My lower back, and
right leg, which used to go into spasm have now sorted themselves out,
thanks to the magnet therapy and we are both delighted.

There is one problem, though.  Our bedroom is north-facing and very cold -
and during the winter we find we really need an electric blanket.  We have
surrounded ourselves with hot-water bottles but these cool in the night
and have to be refilled from the tap.  The Weather buffs forecast a chilly
winter and I am not certain how we will manage.

Am I right in assuming that one cannot use an electric blanket with the
magnetic mattress cover?  I really hope I am wrong as I have a difficult
choice to make at the moment.

Any advice you can give me will be much appreciated.
Sally Ward-Enticott.

And here is what Kat recommended sally does,

Dear Sally

You can in most circumstances use a magnetic mattress cover with an
electric blanket.

Generally, you can use an electric blanket which is placed underneath
the magnetic mattress cover for a couple of hours to warm the
bed and as long as you turn it off before going to sleep you will be fine.

You can also use electric blankets that are designed to be on all night and
only have a low setting.

The reason we recommend the turning off of electric blankets is so as not
to cause the magnets to become too hot. They are obvously metal which will
conduct heat and we don’t want anyone to be burnt and also long term,
continuous exposure to high temperature may degrade the magnets in the long run.

BUT in blankets that are specifically designed to stay on all night they
never get hot enough to cause any problems so is fine to use.

Regards
Kat

The bottom line is you can use a magnetic mattress cover with your electric blanket
but do be aware that the magnets will get warm, possibly even hot, if you leave the
electric blanket on a high heat setting for a long period of time. On the other hand, you
can leave your electric blanket on all night on a low heat setting and enjoy a good night sleep
without any adverse effect to your mattress cover or your health!
